This book was initially published in 1853 as a pamphlet, then greatly revised and expanded and released as a book in 1858.
History shows (see almost any encyclopedia) that about this time the “birth of Christ” began to be celebrated at the same time the pagan winter solstice was celebrated, about December 25th, from which we now have our “Christmas or Christ-Mass”. The Scriptures do not reveal the date of the birth of Christ but scholars have shown it was not on December 25. Hislop also shows that during the pagan “Spring Feast and orgies” the fertility Goddess Ishtar was renamed Mary, and Jesus was the renamed Jupiter-Puer, or "Jupiter the Boy". The fertility goddess “Ishtar”, is part of present day “Easter” with the “Bunny Rabbits” with Eggs celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This book is one of the stones that makes up the foundation upon which Bible Believing Christians stand in opposition to the unbiblical doctrines and practices of Romanism and should be read by all. ABOUT ALEXANDER HISLOP Alexander Hislop was Born at Duns, Berwickshire, Scotland in 1807; and died at Arbroath, in 1865. Scotland at this time was a hotbed for the Masonic Order, and some have thought that Hislop was a Freemason. He was a Free Church of Scotland minister and famous for his outspoken criticisms of the Roman Catholic Church. He was the son of Stephen Hislop, a mason by occupation and an elder of the Relief Church. Alexander was for a time parish schoolmaster of Wick, Caithness. In 1831 he married Jane Pearson. He was for a time editor of the Scottish Guardian newspaper. As a probationer he joined the Free Church of Scotland at the Disruption of 1843. He was ordained in 1844 at the East Free Church, Arbroath, where he became senior minister in 1864. He died of a paralytic stroke the next year after being ill for about two years.
